White Witch's Wand Props Design
Role
My role within this project was to design and build a prop that fit the needs of the director and usable by the actor.
Problem
To recreate the Witch Witch's Wand within my budget and time constraints while remaining true to the source material
Audience
The actors using the prop and the audience who will be sitting farther away from the actors actively using the props
Strategy
I researched the Chronicles of Narnia to understand how the character uses this weapon and the weight it carries. Even though the prop has many features that make it feel delicate like the ice and crystal aspects, it needs to appear hardy enough to bring into battle.
Final Product
I utilized woodworking tools to alter the shape of the staff and painted it using metallic paints. I used hot glue to create many of the smaller ice details throughout the wand.
The main staff has many intricate details with symbols and repeating patterns. These patterns are similar to crystal lattice and thorny vines on the silver portions.
